Barcelona are planning to bring in a new left winger this summer and the two big names on their wishlist are Liverpool’s Luis Diaz and Athletic Bilbao’s 21-year-old Nico Williams.

While Barcelona have some really impressive names on their summer transfer wishlist, they do not have the money to pay the transfer fees for either of the two winger and the only way they will be able to land a new left-winger is by selling Raphinha.

Barcelona have set a price tag of €90 million on Raphinha and as per Mundo Deportivo, Luis Diaz is very much aware of this scenario which is why he is willing to wait for this move to happen so that the Catalans have the funds to take him out of Liverpool.

It seems like Luis Diaz is not particularly eager to play under Arne Slot and he is ready to push for a move to Camp Nou. However, experts believe that if Barca do have the money to pay a major transfer fee they will want to spend it on Nico Williams instead of Luis Diaz.

Will Barcelona prefer Nico Williams or Luis Diaz?

The Colombian international is reportedly high on Deco’s wishlist but the club will have to be ready to spend around €80 million while Nico Williams has a release clause of just €58 million.

This season, Luis Diaz has scored 8 league goals from 32 shots on target while Williams has scored five goals in 31 La Liga matches. However, in terms of assists, Williams is way ahead with 11 contributions as compared to Diaz’s five. The Liverpool winger created 62 chances this past campaign while Nico Williams created 45 chances.

William has played 16 games for the Spanish national side and in this EURO, he has been really impactful for Luis de la Fuente’s side. Diaz, on the other hand, is a seasoned pro with 12 goals in 49 caps for the Colombia national team.

Luis Diaz is a much more polished product at 27 but Nico Williams has age on his side and if the 21-year-old can fulfil his potential then Barcelona will have a world-class left-winger for the next six to seven years, at least.

If Hansi Flick wants someone who can come in and make an instant impact then Barcelona will go after Liverpool’s Luis Diaz but we have a feeling that finances are going to be a big issue and Deco will prefer saving €20-25 million by signing Nico Williams.

However, if Barca decide to go after the Bilbao man then they will have to fight teams like Arsenal and Bayern Munich. Luis Diaz, on the other hand, is very keen to join Barcelona but his Liverpool contract expires in 2027 so the Anfield outfit has no reason to lower their demands.
