Man United suffered yet another loss in the Premier League and according to Nemanja Vidic, the manager should now look to drop Harry Maguire.

Maguire has played 26 games for Man United this season but the defender has been really poor and there have been multiple instances when the side have had to pay for his silly and naive mistakes.

Vidic has suggested that Rangnick has to tactfully use the centre-back from now and protect him from further degrading his confidence.

“Every player has a problem with form at some time in his career,” Vidic, told The Athletic, as quoted. “I did and it’s clear that Maguire is not at his best this season.

“I think you can do a few things and one of them is not to play every match as you try to find form again and get confidence.

“A coach could play him in easier games, not that there are many in the Premier League, and take him out for harder matches. The player needs to feel powerful and strong on the pitch again, not as it is now where he feels that it’s not happening for him.

“It’s difficult to play well when you’re under so much pressure because people are waiting for you to make a mistake. You’re asking me this and I’m replying as a coach.”

Should Harry Maguire be dropped?

Ralf Rangnick had previously tried to use the combination of Lindelof and Varane in central defence but soon after this pairing was used, Varane picked up an injury.

And the interim boss has the same problem right now because Raphael Varane has picked up yet another injury.

Varane is currently out with an injury and we are still not sure how long he will be out. With the Frenchman injured, there’s no way Rangnick can risk dropping Harry Maguire.

But once he comes back, there’s every chance that the Man United boss drops Harry Maguire to the bench. He is a manager who is not afraid of making the harsh selection calls and now with nothing much on the line, Rangnick might very well try out various new combinations.

Maguire is slowly turning out to be a big-money failure and if he continues to fail like this then his confidence will hit rock bottom and there might be no coming back from it.

Varane and Lindelof had a good run so there’s every chance that Ralf Rangnick pushes Harry Maguire down the pecking order and uses the aforementioned pairing for the remainder of the season.
