Kai Havertz to Chelsea

Chelsea spent a lot of money in the transfer market during the summer and brought in two marquee signings in the form of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz. But so far both the German internationals have failed to live up to the hype.

Werner has scored only four goals in 19 Premier League games up until now while Kai Havertz has scored one and assisted three goals in 16 league matches.

Havertz was supposed to be the fulcrum in the starting XI for the Blues this campaign and according to Mark Schwarzer, Frank Lampard should stick to this original plan despite the 21-year-old’s shortcomings.

“Kai Havertz was the main man at Leverkusen last season,” the Australian told Stadium Astro. “He came out of himself more and dominated games more for longer periods of time.

“I get the feeling he needs to be that focal point, focal player. Needs to be the biggest star player.

“Everything needs to go through him, that’s not happening at Chelsea. He’s not even in the game for most of the time.”

Should the Chelsea boss take a gamble with Kai Havertz?

Last season, Kai Havertz was on fire for Leverkusen scoring 12 goals and providing six assists in 30 Bundesliga games but he’s looked a shadow of his past self at Chelsea.

The youngster has failed to justify his price tag as he’s struggled to cope up with life in England and it looks like he’s fallen down the pecking order for the Blues in recent weeks.

In Germany, he was playing mostly as an attacking midfielder and at Chelsea, he’s also been given the same role. But it’s just that the level of competition has increased ten folds.

Chelsea spent £72 million for Kai Havertz in the summer so it’s clear that Lampard will not give up on the midfielder so easily. For the time being, the Chelsea boss will have to act smart and pull him out of the spotlight until the German can sort himself out.

We don’t see Kai Havertz pulling the strings in midfield for Chelsea during the remainder of the season but if the Premier League side are persistent with him, the 21-year-old should come good in the long run.
