According to reports, Real Madrid have been keeping tabs on Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold as they look for a replacement for Dani Carvajal.
Florentino Perez will have the final call on whether Real Madrid will make a move for TAA or not but if Liverpool are willing to give in a discount then Real Madrid will definitely put in a formal bid.
Like Salah and Van Dijk, Trent is about to enter the final year of his contract and while Liverpool want to hold onto all of them, the summer exit of Jurgen Klopp might change are few dynamics. There are rumours that the new manager is going to bring in some of his current players from Feyenoord and if that happens then the Anfield outfield could oust a few players from this current squad.
Should Liverpool cash in on Trent Alexander-Arnold and sell him to Real Madrid?
Former Liverpool striker and current pundit Daniel Sturridge has made it clear that the club just cannot afford to lose TAA in the summer.
“All the top clubs around Europe are going to be sniffing,” Sturridge said on Sky Sports(as quoted). “They’ve got to do everything in their power to get him to sign on the dotted line because you can’t lose Trent.
“He’s from the city, we are talking guys like Stevie G [Gerrard] and Jamie Carragher who have represented one club and that’s what you want for Trent.
“Of course Mo [Salah] and Virg [Van Dijk], they’re guys that they’ve brought in, they’ve been absolutely world class for the football club, but the local lad in Trent who’s become a superstar at the football club, he’s the one that you want to make sure [stays].”
Trent is currently valued at €70 million but because his contract is up in 2025, Liverpool are definitely going to be a bit nervous. The full-back has shown no signs of discontent but he is yet to sign on the dotted line and the last thing the Reds will want is to take him into the final year of his deal and risk losing him for free next year.
Real Madrid are hoping to sign the right-back for around €60 million should he be available for sale and we think Liverpool should just take the money and let him go.
He has been a brilliant servant to the club scoring 19 and assisting 81 goals in just over 300 games but in the end, everything comes down to finances.
Trent’s defensive frailties have come to the forefront in the previous couple of seasons but Klopp has put full faith in him and has even used him in midfield. However, if Arne Slot is not that adjusting then TAA will have to warm the benches which is going to be disastrous for both the player as well as the club.
€60 million is good money for a player who is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract and it’s not always that a club like Real Madrid come in with such a big offer.
In the end, we think Liverpool will refuse to sell Trent because they are confident that he is going sign a new contract but the full-back’s long-term future will mostly depend on what Arne Slot wants from him. Does the new incoming manager want his full-back to be equally good in defence and attack or is he ready to accept imbalance?
