Mo Salah might leave Liverpool during the upcoming transfer window and as per reports, the Reds want WHUFC winger Mohammed Kudus to replace him.
Saudi club Al Ittihad had failed to sign Salah last year but they remain interested and will now come back for him this summer. If Salah chooses to leave Liverpool at the end of this season then Arne Slot will have to be backed with a new world-class right-winger and Kudus might turn out to be that man.
West Ham United had paid around £38 million to sign Mohammed Kudus from Ajax in 2023 and in his first season in England, the winger has 19 goal contributions in 44 appearances across all competitions. His contract with West Ham United expires in 2028 and as per Claret & Hugh and multiple other reports, Kudus has a staggering £85 million release Kudus in his contract.
Is Mo Salah going to leave Liverpool?
Salah along with Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are about to enter the final year of his contract and amongst the three, Mo Salah is the most likely to leave once the current season comes to an end.
Salah has been with Liverpool since 2017 and to date, he has played close to 350 games for the Anfield outfit. He’s scored 211 goals for the club and this season, he’s scored 18 and assisted 10 goals in 30 Premier League games.
However, the Egyptian international is going to be 32 years old in June and with his contract expiring in 2025, this is the perfect time for the club to cash in. His current market value is around €70 million and if Al Ittihad are willing to pay anything like €100-120 million then Liverpool’s decision will be very simple and straightforward.
Should Liverpool spend money on Mohammed Kudus?
Liverpool had looked into Mohammed Kudus when he was playing at Ajax and there’s a major chance that he is going to play for the Anfield outfit next season.
He is primarily a right-winger but the 23-year-old is very versatile and can play all around the pitch in midfield and in the forward positions. This season, he has played on the right wing, the left wing, as a No 10 and also as a right-sided midfielder. He has a rating of 7.42 out of 10 and in 32 league outings, the 23-year-old has scored 7 and assisted 6 goals.
£85 million is a very steep price to pay but there are some doubts over when the release clause becomes active. According to a Ghanasoccernet, Liverpool are preparing to trigger the release clause at the end of this season but other reports are suggesting that the clause does not become active until the summer of 2025.
Irrespective of when the clause comes into play, Liverpool will think long and hard before they are willing to spend that much money on the WHUFC attacker. Liverpool hardly pay such major sums for incoming transfers but last year, they were ready to break the bank for Moises Caicedo and we have a feeling that if the club can bring in a significant amount of money from Mo Salah’s sale, they won’t mind splurging all of it on a player like Kudus.
Mohammed Kudus has been in stellar form for the Hammers and the incoming manager will definitely want him in the squad for the 24/25 season so if the release clause does not become active this summer, then there’s no way Lopetegui will put him up for sale.
