Liverpool have been linked with West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen but according to Kevin Phillips, the Anfield outfit should try and sign someone like Emile Smith Rowe.

Bowen has been one of the best players for the Hammers since his arrival last year and recently, Jurgen Klopp seems to have put the 24-year-old on his transfer wishlist, as a backup to Mo Salah.

But Phillips believes David Moyes is not going to sanction a move for Bowen this summer which is why Liverpool should move for a player like Smith Rowe.

“He [Bowen] could be a good player for them,” he told Football Insider.

“It’s whether he will go there and play regularly for them. It could another Shaqiri situation. I don’t want to see that. Bowen is thriving at West Ham, he’s found a team where he can play regularly.

“If Liverpool want to sign a player like that, why don’t they go for someone like Emile Smith Rowe?

“He could be a very decent signing because I can’t see West Ham letting Bowen go. It’s clear Liverpool are looking for that kind of player but I don’t see it happening.”

Should Liverpool try and sign Emile Smith Rowe?

Emile Smith Rowe was one of the standout players for Arsenal last season and this is why the Gunners have already made him sign a new deal.

The new contract will keep the youngster at Arsenal until 2026 and the club have already rejected a lot of offers for the playmaker.

Emile Smith Rowe is currently valued at £16 million but thanks to his new deal, the North London side can afford to quote a ridiculous price for the 20-year-old.

Also, Jarrod Bowen is a right winger while Emile Smith Rowe is an attacking midfielder. The Arsenal man has never played on the right wing for the senior side so it really does not make sense for Liverpool to go after the 20-year-old.

Liverpool are expected to make a formal move for Jarrod Bowen very soon but we don’t think West Ham will be ready to cash in on him. Plus, the 24-year-old will not like the idea of being the backup to Mo Salah.
