Man United have been urged to sign midfielder N’Golo Kante from Chelsea this summer in order to help Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes flourish.
Crystal Palace star Andros Townsend told talkSPORT: “For me, 100 per cent, his best position is just in front of the back four, patrolling that midfield, literally like a wall between the midfield and the back four.
“He is the best player in the world in that position. If hypothetically, he went to Man United, he would make them title challengers.
“Not only because they’ve got N’Golo Kante, but the freedom it’ll allow Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes to play higher up the field. I hope he’s still got a place at Chelsea. Like I said, he’s the best player in the world in that position.
“I’d like to think he can get back into the team and get playing as well as we know he can. But only Frank [Lampard] can answer that question.
“Maybe Frank is like [Maurizio] Sarri where he doesn’t see that [defensive midfield] position, playing that way in the Premier League.
“Maybe he wants to play a bit more attacking. Kante can go to any team in the world.”
Will Lampard allow N’Golo Kante to join Man United?
Frank Lampard has put N’Golo Kante up for sale this ongoing transfer window but we do not think the Chelsea boss will be too keen to let him join Man United, especially with Inter Milan interested in him.
As per reports, Antonio Conte wants Kante at Inter next season and the Serie A side are right now accumulating the transfer funds to make the deal happen.
So as long as Inter Milan hold a substantial interest in N’Golo Kante, the Chelsea management will not allow a direct rival like Man United to get their hands on the World Cup winner.
Yes, the midfielder might be redundant for Frank Lampard but there’s no denying that the Frenchman is still one of the best defensive midfielders in world football and he would be the perfect replacement to someone like Nemanja Matic at Old Trafford.
Kante had an injury-hit 2019/20 season managing to play in only 22 Premier League games for Chelsea.
