As per a report in TEAMtalk, Spurs are willing to break the bank to be able to land Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.
After the wonderful season he’s had, Eze is going to be one of the most sought-after attacking midfielders in England in the summer and apart from Tottenham, Manchester United and Liverpool have also registered an interest in the 25-year-old.
The midfielder has come up through the ranks at Crystal Palace and this season, he had 14 goal contributions in just 24 Premier League starts for the Eagles. Despite the new manager’s reluctance to sell him, Eze has a release clause of around €80 million which includes about €9.5 million worth of add-ons and this makes things rather easy for all three interested clubs.
Man United and Liverpool will be more than happy to trigger the clause but there were doubts whether Spurs would do the same. However, the Lilywhites have made up their mind and they are now ready to challenge the two EPL giants.
Should Spurs be paying a premium for Eberechi Eze?
Eberechi Eze has an xA of 5.55 in the league this season along with a passing accuracy of almost 84%. The No 10 has also scored as many as 11 goals this season with an xG on target of 10.58.
Spurs only have James Maddison as their No 10 and there’s no question that Ange needs to bring in a genuine competitor for the England international. Eze is one of the most exciting No 10s in the Premier League right now and he will definitely give Maddison a run for his money.
Eze is a proper baller who likes to play one-touch passes in the final third and he’s also great at keeping the ball close to his feet and dribbling past opponents in close quarters.
Tottenham have plans to sign three or four new players this summer but after missing out on Champions League football, Levy will surely allocate a small budget. However, if they do have €80 million to spare on one Eze alone then there’s no doubt they should be challenging Man United and Liverpool.
United are still pondering what to do with Bruno Fernandes so they are yet to make up their mind on the Palace midfielder but Liverpool can certainly do with a player like him.
If Arne Slot is serious about landing the 25-year-old then Spurs might struggle to convince Eberechi Eze because at Anfield, he will not only have a chance to play in the UCL next season but he will also have a genuine shot at winning silverware.
A few years ago, Daniel Levy would have straight away cut off interest in such an expensive signing but that sale of Harry Kane seems to have boosted Tottenham’s transfer budget which is why they are now willing to go after big-money signings.
