Rangers FC have been linked with a move for centre-forward Lyle Taylor who is set to be a free agent in the summer.
The Gers are amongst a host of clubs who are keen to land the 30-year-old centre-forward and as per Charlton boss Lee Bowyer, the player will not feature in the remaining Championship games due to fears of getting injured and ruining a transfer possibility in the summer.
“Lyle is a big player for us, a bit like Deeney at Watford,” Charlton’s manager told TalkSPORT, as reported by Football Insider.
“When he plays, we win games and Lyle has said he is not going to play because of the risk of injury. Chris Solly said the same. He’s done great for us for two years and, in my eyes, you finish what you have started.
“Everyone has got their own decisions to make – I cannot force them. What disappoints me the most, and I’ve spoken to Lyle about it, [is that] he wants to play but he is so worried about getting injured that he is saying: ‘I won’t be the same player for you.’
“It’s difficult because he’s so big [a player] for us. He’s going to get a life-changing move. If it wasn’t for Lyle, we wouldn’t even be in this division. He has chosen now not to come back and play until the end.”
And keeping this in mind, Ibrox legend, Ally McCoist has claimed that Rangers FC should think hard before making a move for a player who fails to honour a deal.
He said, as reported: “Of course, Lyle Taylor, or any individual has got a priority to look after himself and his family.
“But, when you sign a contract, any contract, any profession, any walk of life, if you’re happy to sign the contract you should at least be happy to enough to honour the contract and see it out.
“You can’t sign a contract and say ‘of there’s a nice three-year contract’ and honour it for two-and-a-half years.
“It just not right, it’s 100 per cent not right. So, if any individual and I don’t know the ins and outs of Lyle’s contract, any player who is under contract, I’ve got a serious problem with them not putting themselves up to play.”
Should Rangers back out of signing Lyle Taylor?
While McCoist does have a point but he is surely being too harsh on the forward since any player is bound to take care of his health, especially when he is set to be without a club in the summer.
If his contract with Charlton would have been for one more season, Taylor might have just taken the pitch but in case he is injured in these remaining matches, there’s every chance all the potential suitors could back out from signing him in the summer.
Apart from Rangers FC, a few Premier League clubs have also shown a keen interest in signing Lyle Taylor and if the 30-year-old was to miss out at the chance of playing for the big guns just because of an injury, it would have been really harsh on him.
