England play three games during the international break and manager Gareth Southgate has chosen not to include Trent Alexander-Arnold in Three Lions squad for these matches.

This decision comes at the back of a rough patch with Liverpool in the domestic tournaments as the right-back has managed only three assists in 27 Premier League matches for the Anfield outfit so far.

Southgate has opted to call in Reece James, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker instead and this decision has not gone down too well with Rangers FC manager and former Liverpool player Steven Gerrard.

The former England international feels, Gareth Southgate chose to snub Trent Alexander-Arnold at a time when he clearly needs support.

“One thing’s for sure, I’ll always be there for Trent,” said Gerrard, as quoted by TEAMtalk. “It goes without saying, any second of the day. I wouldn’t make the first move. He’s a man himself. He knows where he’s at.

“Gareth Southgate makes the decisions there. I don’t necessarily agree with that decision, but I’m not the England manager. I think Trent is the best English right-back in the country. One thing I’ve learnt from being a player is you can’t always be 10 out of 10.

“When you do come off, you need that support, love and attention from your manager more than anyone else. So I was surprised by the decision but that’s my opinion and my opinion is not important in this.

“Trent is a world-class right back. We’ve got other fantastic right backs, by the way. But I’m there for Trent and any of the other Liverpool players at any moment of the day.”

Should Trent Alexander-Arnold have been dropped from the England squad?

We can understand where Gerrard is coming from but Southgate is not the one who is required to nurture and bring back players to their peak form. And with players like Reece James and Trippier waiting in the wings, it would have been really unfair if the England boss still chose to call in the out of form Liverpool man.

Also, even if the 22-year-old was added to the squad, we don’t think Southgate would have included him in a match meaning his long travels would have been absolutely worthless.

This is why we feel the England manager took the correct call by dropping Trent Alexander-Arnold from the national time and the Liverpool right-back can now use this lengthy break to work on his physical as well as mental fitness.
