Jota is currently spending a loan season with Celtic and he’s on the verge of signing a permanent deal.

The winger has had a flourishing season with the Bhoys, scoring nine and assisting nine goals in 26 Premiership games and if reports are to be believed then Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou, also wants to hold onto him.

The Bhoys boss has asked his management to get a permanent deal done and as things stand, the club won’t find it too hard to hold onto the 23-year-old

Reports in Portugal are also suggesting that Jota himself wants to remain with Celtic and he’s also informed Benfica of his desires.

Jota on a permanent deal won’t be a great bit of business for Celtic:

Jota has been brilliant for Celtic this season and his influence in the first XI has been unmatched so far. As an impact on the pitch, the winger’s signing will be a very logical one but in terms of finances, this might not be a lucrative bit of business.

A Bola reports that Benfica are ready to let Jota leave on a permanent deal in the summer but the Eagles want a 30% future sell-on clause for the winger.

Buying players on a bargain deal and then selling them for a profit is a legit business strategy for Celtic but if there’s a 30% sell-on clause then the Bhoys won’t be able to make a significant profit from his sale in the future.

Nevertheless, Celtic won’t be thinking about these things because Jota is a wonderful player and the club can’t afford to let go of such a massive talent.

How much will Celtic FC have to pay for Jota?

There’s a €7.5 million option to buy clause in the loan deal and this is an amount that Celtic can very easily pay.

While the fee won’t be an issue but the problem will arise with the 30% sell-on clause. It remains to be seen if Benfica want this 30% from the total future sale price that Celtic get or will it be calculated only out of the future profit the club makes by selling Jota.
