Arsenal spent money on some really gamble signings during the summer and initially, it seemed like all the money had been flushed down the drain.

But as the season has progressed Mikel Arteta has proved all the haters wrong and in the past few months, the Gunners have climbed up from the relegation zone up to the fifth spot in the Premier League.

Despite the success of players like Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale, there’s more work to be done as the manager needs to strengthen several other spots in the squad. At the same time, Arteta will want to get rid of the deadwood so that he can make space for the potential arrivals and also reduce the wage bills.

There are several Arsenal first-team players who are completely useless to the manager right now and we take a look at six such players who are likely to be offloaded during the January transfer window.

Bernd Leno:

Leno has fallen down the pecking order after the arrival of Aaron Ramsdale and given how the summer signing has been performing, there’s no future for the 29-year-old at Arsenal.

According to the latest reports, the keeper is interested in moving out of the club during the January transfer window itself and if a good enough offer comes in, the North London side will not hold him back.

Alexandre Lacazette:

Lacazette is another player who could be on his way out at the start of the new year, despite him coming back into the forefront in the past few weeks.

The Frenchman’s current deal with the Emirates outfit expires next summer so instead of losing him as a free agent, Mikel Arteta will much rather cash in on him in January.

Clubs like Newcastle United and West Ham United have shown a keen interest in the forward and as per the latest updates, even Manchester City want to bring him on board.

With so many sides interested in him, the Gunners will not find it hard to offload Alexandre Lacazette.

Calum Chambers:

The arrival of Takehiro Tomiyasu has pushed Chambers down the pecking order this season. He can also play as a centre-back but that position too is absolutely full.

And maybe this is why Arsenal have offered the services of the 26-year-old to AS Roma during the January transfer window.

Sead Kolasinac:

Kolasinac is another player who has been tipped to move out of the club at the start of the new year but he’s recently picked up a horror ankle injury while on international duty and this could prevent Arsenal from cashing in on him.

We are still not sure how long will he be out for but if the injury is serious then the Gunners will have to hold onto him until the summer.

Eddie Nketiah:

Nketiah has really struggled to get game time this season and with West Ham United as well as Leeds United interested in him, the Gunners will be really keen to send him out asap.

Newcastle United have also been linked with the 22-year-old and along with Lacazette, the Magpies could try and sign Nkeitah as well.

Nicolas Pepe:

Nicolas Pepe has turned out to be a major failure since his big-money move to the English Premier League and with Bukayo Saka playing flawlessly on the right flank, this may be the perfect time for Arsenal to offload Pepe.

But if Mikel Arteta wants to get rid of the winger during the middle of the season then they will have to be ready to suffer a big loss.
