Southampton recently announced that they have sacked their manager Claude Puel. And now they are in the hunt for a new manager who could take up the role.

And if reports are to believed then the Saints have shortlisted Ryan Giggs as a possible replacement. Yes, Giggs could be the next Southampton manager. The Ex-Untied legend retired from professional football a few years back. And since then he has been working hard in order to earn his coaching batches. It was always evident that Giggs would ultimately take up a managerial role in a club. And last season he was heavily linked with Swansea but somehow that did not materialise.

Southmapton manager
Giggs who could be the next Southampton manager has played over 950 games for Man Utd.

Now news is afloat that Giggs might become the next manager at St Mary’s. But this will not be his first job at a dugout. Having managed Manchester United previously as a temporary manager. He was in charge of four Premier League games in 2014 after United had sacked then manager David Moyes, winning two and drawing one game.

But having said all this, does Ryan Giggs really fit the description of a top flight manager?

What Giggs brings to the table:

If Ryan Giggs does eventually become Southampton’s new manager then he will bring truckloads of experience with him. Giggs had a professional playing career that stretched for two decades and over 900 games. He has seen eras gone by and has been a first-hand witness to every possible up and down in football. There’s nothing this man has not seen. Failures to fairytales, Ryan Giggs has lived through all. And this is something that can be of great help to Southampton in the coming season.

Southampton manager
Giggs was a temporary manager for United in 2014 managing four Premier League games.

Southampton finished eighth in the Premier League last season and they might need that added push to move up the ladder in the next season.

What Ryan Giggs lacks:

Giggs does have heaps and heaps of experience, but unfortunately, none of it is related to managerial roles. Giggs has never had any kind of serious managerial experience and if Southampton does become his first job then it will certainly be an uphill task.

And especially in a League which is so demanding and cruel, managers are sacked at a drop of a hat. So a few bad months and Giggs could very well be under the sword.
