Southampton suffered a 3-1 loss to Everton on the opening weekend but since then they have been able to steady their ship after fine performances against Man United and then recently against Newport County in the league cup.

The Saints picked up an 8-0 win over Newport in the Carabao Cup draw and now beaming with confidence, they will take on Newcastle United this weekend.

NUFC have made another rocky start to their Premier League campaign, losing both their opening matches so we expect Hasenhuttl’s side to pick up all three points without any major stumbles.

But having said that, Southampton have not been particularly good on the road, losing their last six away matches in the league so the St Mary’s side will have to proceed with a bit of caution. After that fine performance in midweek, a lot of first-team players will be pushing for spots in the Newcastle United game so Hasenhuttl has some strong decisions to make.

Southampton team news vs Newcastle United:

Bednarek and Jack Stephens played in central defence against Newport County but for this Saturday’s encounter Salisu is going to come back into the side.

Southampton have completed the signing of centre-back Lyanco from Torino but he will not be available for selection this weekend.

Kyle Walker-Peters also played in midweek, scoring a goal so it will be interesting to see if the manager names him in the starting line up or does Hasenhuttl call back Perraud.

James Ward-Prowse and Oriol Romeu are the first-choice midfield pairing for Southampton right now and it’s going to stay the same way against the Magpies as well.

Stuart Armstrong is likely to miss this game after it was confirmed that he has picked up a calf injury.

BBC journalist Adam Blackmore updated on Twitter: “Stuart Armstrong is missing today with a minor calf injury.”

Theo Walcott though could lose his place in the side to Mohamed Elyounoussi after his fine performance in the Carabao Cup. The winger scored a hat-trick so Hasenhuttl should reward him with another start.

Djenepo is going to come back into the left-hand side of attack after being rested in midweek with Che Adams and Armstrong pairing up in the centre-forward’s role.

Michael Obafemi came off the bench against Newport but he will have to be content with a place on the bench against Newcastle United.

Southampton predicted line up vs Newcastle:

Predicted XI(4-4-2): McCarthy; Bednarek, Salisu, Livramento, Perraud; Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Djenepo, Elyounoussi/Walcott; Che Adams, Adam Armstrong.
