Conte explains why the Chelsea game will be so important for him and his players: Will they pass the litmus test?

Spurs take on Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday and Antonio Conte is using this match as the yardstick to see how much his team has progressed in the previous few months.

There’s no denying that Tottenham are the most improved side this calendar year and Antonio Conte’s side are currently one of the favourites to grab a top-four spot on the table, besides Liverpool and Manchester City.

However, Spurs have not been lucky against their London rivals and their manager wants to see this change on Sunday.

“This game will be important to make the right evaluation about our improvement,” Conte told the press on Friday.

“I think this game will be very important to us whether we win, lose or draw and then we have to be good to make the right evaluation.

“Last season we played three games (against Chelsea) after only two months since I arrived. Now we have seven months plus one month of the preseason. We implemented the work and as a team we are better.”

Will Spurs be able to beat Chelsea on Sunday?

These two sides have met seven times in November of 2020 and quite surprisingly, Spurs have not been able to win even a single time.

Apart from a friendly in 2021, Spurs have not been able to win during this time.

The last time the Lilywhites won against Chelsea was way back in September of 2020 in an EFL Cup clash.

Now, the kind of form that Tottenham are in, it will be very harsh on Conte and his players if Chelsea win again. The away side are very much the favourites to win on Sunday and given how they blew away Southampton in gameweek one, we don’t expect anything other than a win for Conte’s men.

Chelsea also won last weekend but they currently have some major issues with their team and we doubt if Thomas Tuchel will be able to solve all these problems in the next few days.

They need to firm up their midfield as well as their centre-forward role so if they can even hold Spurs to a draw it will be a job well done. Chelsea will obviously go all out to pick up all three points but Tuchel is a very realistic manager who knows even one point won’t be bad, especially in gameweek two.
