Spurs welcome Southampton to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend in their first match of the new season and this match will be very crucial for the Lilywhites.

Tottenham have made an overload of signings this summer so not only will they have to win on Saturday but Antonio Conte will have to make sure his team lives up to the pre-season hype which has been created.

Spurs had a great run towards the end of the previous season and they will be hoping to pick up from where they left off. Ideally, Conte will want to experiment a bit with his starting line-up but last campaign, the competition was really intense so Tottenham will have to hit fifth gear from the very first gameweek.

Before the curtain raiser at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, we take a look at the latest team news for the home side and how they are likely to shape up.

Spurs team news and injuries vs Southampton:

Antonio Conte, just like last season will stick to a 3-4-3 formation and the defensive line is not expected to see any changes. Eric Dier will play centrally with Romero and Ben Davies playing on either side of the England international.

Spurs have signed Yves Bissouma from Brighton but we don’t think he will be used this weekend, more so cause he’s just recovered from a slight knock. Oliver Skipp is out injured which means Hojbjerg and Bentancur will pair up in central midfield.

Bissouma should be fit to be on the bench meaning he is likely to come on as a second-half sub.

Ivan Perisic was one of the star signings for Spurs and he is most certainly going to take up the role as the right wing-back. Sergio Reguilon could be leaving the club in the coming weeks so we don’t expect him to be in the matchday squad.

Richarlison will serve a ban because of breaching FA rules which means for gameweek one, the trio of Son, Kane and Kulusevski will get starting roles.

Spurs have also signed Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence but neither of them is going to be named in the first XI against the Saints.

Spurs predicted line up vs Southampton:

Predicted Starting line up(3-4-3): Lloris; Davies, Romero, Eric Dier; Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Ivan Perisic, Doherty; Son, Harry Kane, Kulusevski.
