According to Sky Sports, after Chelsea and Arsenal, Spurs have become the latest club who seem to be interested in PSV winger Cody Gakpo.

Gakpo had a wonderful season with PSV, scoring 12 and assisting 13 goals in the Eredivisie and as per CaughtOffside, Arsenal and Chelsea have been given the opportunity to sign the 23-year-old.

The two London sides are said to be going through the proposal and some experts have suggested that both these clubs could eventually make an offer for Gakpo.

However, things are about to get really complicated because Antonio Conte has allowed Berwijn to join Ajax this summer which is why the Italian is possibly looking at Cody Gakpo as the replacement.

What type of a player is Cody Gakpo?

The 23-year-old has come up through the ranks of PSV and to date, he’s played in 135 games across all competitions. He’s also a full-time Netherlands international, making his debut back in 2021.

Primarily he is a left-winger but can also play on the right-wing, as a centre-forward and also as an out-and-out striker.

He is more of a utility player who has a knack for goals, someone who can act as the backup to the main wingers and strikers(at least in the Premier League).

Can Spurs beat all the other suitors to the signing of the winger?

Chelsea and Arsenal are yet to make up their mind and we don’t think either of them is viewing Gakpo as their primary target.

Yes, he’s scored and assisted numerous goals this past season but he’s still not ready to play for a club like Chelsea or Arsenal.

Spurs, on the other hand, can certainly use a player like him because Antonio Conte needs a proper backup for Son as well as Kulusevski.

Once Bergwijn leaves, Spurs’ forward line will be shredded to the bare minimum and since Cody Gakpo can play on either wing, it will be like hitting two birds with one stone.

However, there is another side who are also interested in signing the PSV man and we think they have the best chance of landing him this summer.

Leeds United are about to lose Raphinha so they want to sign Gakpo as his replacement. At Chelsea, Spurs or Arsenal, the 23-year-old will have to play second-fiddle to the big stars and his appearances will be limited to cup games and substitute appearances.

At Leeds though he will get the chance to become the first-choice left-winger once Raphinha moves out. Arsenal and Chelsea are both interested in signing the Brazilian so it’s only a matter of time before he secures an exit and once this deal is done, Cody Gakpo can very easily come in and take up that role.
