Steven Bergwijn has put his Tottenham Hotspur future up in the air amidst potential interest from Manchester United.

The winger has hardly played for Tottenham Hotspur since joining them in 2020 and this weekend, Steven Bergwijn has admitted that he could be on his way out of the club at the end of this season.

When asked about his future, Bergwijn said as quoted by The Athletic: “A place in the starting line up? Here[vs Leicester]? I honestly don’t think so. The attack works well, but I don’t get to play much.”

“It’s important to me that I’m going to get to play now.

“It certainly would be. A return to the Netherlands would certainly be an option for me. The World Cup is coming. Mr. Van Gaal, the national coach, brought me into the selection last time, even though I didn’t play much.

“Then you come back to the club and you barely play. It is a shame, of course. In the summer we really have to look for a solution.”

Should Man United make a move for Steven Bergwijn?

Recent reports have suggested that Erik ten Hag could ask Manchester United to try and sign Steven Bergwijn once the current season comes to an end.

Ajax had tried to sign the winger in January but Spurs rejected the offer hoping that he will able to win Conte’s trust during the second half of the season. While that hasn’t happened but ETH certainly has a very good idea of how the 24-year-old operates.

He is primarily a right-winger, a position where Anthony Elanga is currently playing for Man United. Rashford also operates on that same side but the England international has been in really poor form this season. There are also rumours of Rashford leaving in the summer and if that happens then United will obviously look at Bergwijn.

Ten Hag could opt for a major overhaul of the Man United side once he takes charge in the summer and someone as energetic and as pacey as Steven Bergwijn can very easily become a regular starter at Old Trafford next season.
