Rangers brought in Steven Davis on a six-month loan deal from Southampton during the January transfer window and Gerrard has decided that the player is worthy of staying for one more season.

The 34-year-old is out of contract with the Saints at the end of this month and reports have claimed that the Gers are offering him a one-year deal at the club despite playing in just 4 Premiership games during the 2018-19 season.

This clearly goes on to show that Gerrard believes the experience of Steven Davis could work wonders for the Gers next season and even former Rangers striker David Healy thinks so.

Healy has predicted that Steven Davis could turn out to be a key figure in defence for Rangers next season and might help the Teddy Bears challenge Celtic for the Premiership title.

Healy told the Daily Record: “My thoughts on Davo [Davis] have always been positive, not only on the pitch but off the pitch.

“He can play a big part for Rangers going forward because he’s that good.

“Rangers are building well under the new manager and I know Gerrard will be aiming for trophies next season and Davo can be hugely influential in that.

“I don’t want to be talking out of school because it’s up to Gerrard who he plays and in my opinion, he is doing a very good job at Rangers but I know the quality that Steven has and I feel he will be a big, big player for the club next season.

“The thing about Davo is he has great experience which helps other players and he has genuine quality.

“I’m sure it was frustrating going back to Rangers and not being in the team straight away because for most of his career he’s always been in the starting line up.”

Steven Davis was rusty during the second half of the season but a full pre-season will surely help him get back into shape for the 2019-20 and in turn, play a key part in Gerrard’s plans.
