Rangers FC manager Steven Gerrard has vacated his position at the club and has officially joined Aston Villa as their new manager.

Villa had recently sacked Dean Smith and after scouting through a few managers, the management decided to bring in the Liverpool legend as their new boss.

And on Thursday, the club officially announced the appointment of Steven Gerrard as the new Aston Villa manager via an official statement.

The statement read: “Aston Villa Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Steven Gerrard as our new Head Coach.

“Gerrard guided Glasgow Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title last season, finishing the campaign undefeated in the league.

“The 41-year-old has attracted many admirers in the game for his work in transforming the fortunes of the Glasgow giants while also implementing an attractive, attacking style of football.”

Why did Steven Gerrard leave Rangers and joined Aston Villa?

Many pundits had claimed that Steven Gerrard still has unfinished business at Rangers which is why he will reject an approach from Aston Villa.

All those predictions have promptly gone down the drain and speaking after his appointment, the 41-year-old has revealed why he chose to take charge of the Villa park outfit midseason.

Steven Gerrard said: “Aston Villa is a club with a rich history and tradition in English football and I am immensely proud to become its new Head Coach.

“In my conversations with Nassef, Wes and the rest of the Board, it was apparent how ambitious their plans are for the club and I am looking forward to helping them achieve their aims.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everybody associated with Glasgow Rangers for giving me the opportunity to manage such an iconic football club. Helping them secure a record-breaking 55th league title will always hold a special place in my heart. I would like to wish the players, staff and supporters the very best for the future.”

Apart from the vision, Steven Gerrard was obviously inclined to become the new Aston Vill manager since Dean Smith had actually built a very fine squad in the past two years.

It was a shame that Smith could not make them play as a proper team this season but if they can be coached well then even a top-six finish is not too wayward a dream.

And this is exactly what Steven Gerrard will be trying to do for the remainder of the season. Villa have spent the Jack Grealish money pretty wisely by signing players like Leon Bailey and Danny Ings so Gerrard does not have to start from scratch.
