Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa

Aston Villa look all set to announce Steven Gerrard as their next manager and the announcement could happen by Friday.

Villa have recently sacked Dean Smith after a really poor start to the 2020/21 season and immediately Gerrard was being linked with the vacant position.

Many major pundits have claimed that Gerrard will remain loyal to Rangers FC and will not leave Ibrox during the middle of the season. But it seems like all those predictions have gone down the drain.

Birmingham Mail’s Aston Villa correspondent Ashley Preece is claiming that Steven Gerrard has agreed to become the new Aston Villa manager and the announcement could be made within the next 24 to 48 hours.

He wrote on Twitter: “Steven Gerrard to Aston Villa all but done as he finalises his backroom staff.

“I’m expecting an announcement within the next 24 to 48 hours if not sooner. Christian Purslow set to get his man.”

Preece is generally reliable with his reports regarding Villa and if he’s claiming that the talks are done then it’s only a matter of time before the Liverpool legend is unveiled at Villa Park.

Former Villa defender Richard Dunne had told Sky Sports on Wednesday that the pull of the Premier League will be very hard to resist and this is exactly what has happened.

He said: “Rangers are a big club but the Premier League is the biggest league in the world and that’s where all good managers want to be”

Brendan Rodgers did a similar thing when Leicester City came calling for the then Celtic boss and it’s not a big surprise that Steven Gerrard is walking on the same path.

Eventually, he wants to become the next Liverpool boss so managing a club like Aston Villa is going to be the perfect audition for the 41-year-old.
