Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham picked up an injury during their Champions League clash against Valencia and at first, the injury looked really nasty.
The player had to be stretchered off the pitch which indicated that he could be out for a significant amount of time. But thankfully he said after the match that the injury wasn’t as bad as it had seemed.
“It’s much better than when it happened,” Abraham told Chelsea TV[as quoted by Sky Sports].
“At the time I was fearful of the worst but it was much better when I got in.
“I was able to walk and move about. So I’m thankful and hopefully, it’s not too long. I’ll have a scan, but hopefully, it’s just bruising. It was a knee to my hip area, so hopefully, it’s not too serious.
“It’s always been a dream to play in the Champions League so I don’t want it to end here, I want to push on further. So it’s good that it’s in our hands.”
The player did go on to miss the West Ham United game and now there are doubts over his participation in the midweek clash vs Aston Villa too.
And while talking about playing Callum Hudson-Odoi in the striker’s role for the last 20-odd minutes against West Ham United, Frank Lampard indicated that Tammy Abraham still have some work to do before he can get back to full fitness.
‘We’ll see. He does have an ability to run behind the line, and to be sharp in central areas which will naturally get him more goals,’ the manager said.
‘I am not going to say right now if that is the solution, but we will see as we go forward.
‘We will find out more today and tomorrow. He needs to get outside and move a little bit outside over the next two days.’
Olivier Giroud started up front vs West Ham in the absence of Olivier Giroud but if the England youngster cannot be available for selection against Villa, then Lampard will hopefully turn to Michy Batshuayi to lead the line.
