Chelsea likely to bag £40m for the sale of this first-team misfit: Who’s paying so much?

Tammy Abraham, Azpiliceuta Chelsea Premier League

Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham has fallen down the pecking order under manager Thomas Tuchel and there’s a big chance he will be leaving in the summer.

A few clubs have shown an interest in signing the 23-year-old but according to The Mirror, it’s Aston Villa who are the most eager to bring him on board, as Dean Smith looks to bolster his squad for the new season.

The report claims: “Aston Villa are ready to spend up to £40million to take Tammy Abraham from Chelsea.

“The 23-year-old striker has been told he is free to leave Stamford Bridge as he does not feature in Thomas Tuchel’s long-term plans.

“And that has opened the door for Villa boss Dean Smith, under whom Abraham had a successful loan spell three seasons ago.”

Will Chelsea let Tammy Abraham leave?

The 23-year-old was one of the key strikers for Chelsea at the start of the season but since Tuchel’s arrival, Tammy Abraham has seen his importance diminish.

Last season he made only 22 appearances in the Premier League, out of which 12 were from the starting positions.

With Havertz and Timo Werner slowly finding their form, Thomas Tuchel will have no use of the forward next season. But some felt that since Olivier Giroud was heading out, the Chelsea boss could hold onto Tammy Abraham as a backup striker.

Now that Aston Villa are ready to pay up to £40 million for the England international, there’s no way the Blues are going to have second thoughts.

Before breaking into the first-team at Stamford Bridge, the forward had spent one full season on loan at Villa Park so even he will not be too hesitant about playing under Dean Smith next campaign.

According to TransferMarkt, Tammy Abraham is valued at £34.20 million and his contract with Chelsea expires in 2023.
