Tammy Abraham picked up a hip injury during Chelsea’s Champions League clash vs Valencia in midweek and now he’s been ruled out for their next EPL game.
Next up, the Blues take on West Ham United at Stamford and manager Frank Lampard has made it clear the 22-year-old will not be available for selection during Saturday’s game.
The manager was also asked about a possible return date for Tammy Abraham to which he said that further updates could only be provided next weekend.
Lampard told Chelsea FC: “We’ll know by the end of the weekend. He’s got some pain. He won’t be involved tomorrow, and we will see by Monday.
It’s a squad game over the course of a season. The lads have been training well. Every day is a workday, so when opportunities come they’re ready. I have full confidence in them.”
The absence of Tammy Abraham will certainly be a huge blow for the Blues and now it will be Michy Batshuayi who will start up front vs the Hammers on Saturday.
And despite playing very little football this season, the manager seems to have complete faith in the Belgian international.
“A work ethic, a quality. It’s not easy when you’re not playing so many minutes as you want,” Lampard added.
“With Tammy’s form, it’s meant he’s played a lot, but that can obviously change now Tammy has his injury. I’ve seen a great work ethic, and a persistence in how he works and a consistency, and his quality.”
Apart from Tammy Abraham, Chelsea do not have any major injury concerns but despite returning back to full training Antonio Rudiger will not be playing against West Ham.
While the defender has made himself injury fit but he is yet to reach full match fitness which could take around a fortnight as per reports.
