Tammy Abraham picked up a hip injury as he landed awkwardly while competing for a corner during Chelsea’s Champions League game last week.

And this injury meant he had to be stretched off the pitch despite being able to walk after receiving initial treatment.

At first, the rumours did not sound good but the striker quickly came to suggest that his injury was not as bad as it first seemed.

“It’s much better than when it happened,” Abraham told Chelsea TV[as quoted by Sky Sports].

“At the time I was fearful of the worst but it was much better when I got in.

“I was able to walk and move about. So I’m thankful and hopefully, it’s not too long. I’ll have a scan, but hopefully, it’s just bruising. It was a knee to my hip area, so hopefully, it’s not too serious.

“It’s always been a dream to play in the Champions League so I don’t want it to end here, I want to push on further. So it’s good that it’s in our hands.”

But this injury did mean he played no part in Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to West Ham United on Saturday and there have also been doubts about his participation in the Aston Villa game in midweek.

It is still unclear as to how much progress Tammy Abraham has actually made but if the latest reports are to be believed then the youngster should be fit in time to take on his former loan club.

In the absence of Tammy Abraham, it was Olivier Giroud who was given a start and that moved turned out to be really poor as the Frenchman offered very little going forward.

Chelsea still have three days to get the England international back to his feet but what remains to be seen is whether Tammy is fit enough to play the full 90 minutes.

Worst case scenario if the striker cannot make himself available for the Villa game then it will most certainly be Michy Batshuayi who will start up front and not Giroud.
