The race for the Premier League top four might just have turned on its head due to this one major injury news

Arsenal FC Emirates Stadium

Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney picked up an injury during training on Thursday and as per the latest reports, the Scottish international is set to be out for the remainder of the season.

One injury should never be an issue for such a big club like Arsenal but they did not sign even a single player in January and this transfer policy could now end up helping teams like Spurs and Manchester United.

Initially, Mikel Arteta had hinted that the injury was not looking good and then confirming those fears, the club put out an official statement which said: “Kieran felt discomfort after a training session on Thursday, March 31. Further assessments and scans have confirmed that Kieran has damaged his left knee.

“A specialist consultation took place on Tuesday, and as a result of further discussions with Kieran and our medical team, it has been decided that Kieran requires surgery to his knee. This procedure will take place in London in the forthcoming days.

“Kieran’s rehabilitation programme will start immediately after his surgery, at which stage a clearer understanding will be established on his recovery timescale. However, it is likely that Kieran will now miss the remainder of this season.

“Everyone at the club will now be supporting and working hard with Kieran to get him back on the pitch as soon as possible.”

Kieran Tierney is not the only problem since midfielder Thomas Partey also picked up an injury on Monday meaning he too could be out for some time now.

Arsenal to start slipping down the table now?

A couple of injuries were enough to crumble Arsenal’s season and that’s exactly what’s happening. Arteta took a massive risk by not signing any backups in January and it seems like that gamble might not pay off.

They already slipped out of the top-four after that 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace and if players like Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey are missing then they are bound to lose even more matches.

The Gunners do have a game in hand but they still need to play teams like Man United, Chelsea and Spurs. Without such key players in their side, it will be really hard for Mikel Arteta to pick up wins in each and every one of these games.

Theoretically, West Ham United are still in the race but they have played one more game than all the other suitors so there’s a chance they might be missing out.

But Tottenham and Manchester United are very much in the race.

Can Spurs and Manchester United capitalize?

After Arsenal’s loss to Palace, Spurs have moved up to the 4th spot on the table and right now, they are the team to beat. Manchester United might be 7th on the table but they are just three points behind that final Champions League spot.

United have been dropping unnecessary points under Ralf Rangnick so we doubt if they can buckle up and pick up wins in every one of their remaining matches.

Spurs though have a very good chance at securing the 4th spot ahead of Arsenal. They do have some tough games in the form of Liverpool and an absolutely vital North London Derby but apart from that, all of their other games are very much winnable.

Arsenal were the only side who were consistently picking up wins during the second half of the season but with a few injuries creeping into the squad, there’s no way they will be able to maintain the same impetus which means the Premier League top-four race is far from over.
