A couple of weeks ago reports had claimed that West Ham United were planning to change the colour of the pitchside area of the London stadium.

Currently, the pitchside area has a green material but the Hammers want to change to Claret which is the main colour of the Hammers logo.

But it was easier said than done since the Premier League club are not the owners of the club.

London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) are the rightful owners of the London Stadium and West Ham United currently pay £2.5m a year to use the stadium as part of a 99-year lease.

And now the LLDC has given its verdict on the change of the pitchside area.

LLDC’s Lyn Garner has rejected the request from West Ham to change the colour to claret and the chief executive chose some rather straightforward words to put out her views.

Lyn Garner said: “The usage fee is extremely low,

“We could take the £300k. It’s a drop in the ocean for the size of the losses we are dealing with and will be dealing with for the next 97 years of this contract.

“But it’s not unreasonable to ask the club to pay something extra for something they are getting back which is extra.”

Garner’s response to the colour change on the pitchside area of the London Stadium was part of a bigger statement in which he claimed that the rent paid by West Ham United is too low and it does not even cover the cost of staging the games.

She has also warned that the stadium is currently facing losses for the next 97 years if they are unable to bring in finance in the coming few years.

Some reports claim that the main reason for rejecting West Ham’s colour change proposal is not the small amount but the fact that the LLDC wish to use the pitchside area as a sponsorship possibility in the future in order to bring down the losses.
