Manchester City ran away with the Premier League title last season but according to pundit Paul Merson, it will not be a walk in the park this time around.

Man City won the title with a gap of 12 points with Manchester United coming second. Chelsea and Liverpool made up the two other UCL spots but they had to really sweat it out to be able to finish in the top-four.

According to Merson, no one can really predict the English top division winners for the 2021-22 season as it will be neck to neck and the previous top four clubs.

“I strongly believe this could be one of the tightest ones [title races] in recent memory,” Merson told Sportskeeda.

“Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea can all win the title – that’s a four-way battle for the Premier League crown and I don’t expect any of them to run away with it by a margin of double-digit points.

“Some might say Manchester City winning the Premier League title isn’t exactly a bold prediction, but as I said earlier, four teams could win it and it’s almost impossible to predict the outcome at this point in time.

“There’s a big gulf of class between the top four sides in the Premier League and the rest, so the title race could boil down to who wins the mini-league between Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea.

“We could witness one of the closest title races in ages, but I expect Manchester City to come out on top this season.”

Manchester City were a class apart during the 2020-21 season but all the other three sides are doing major rebuilding this summer – something which should catapult them closer to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Solskjaer is fully focused on plugging the holes in his first-team squad and he’s already solved one major problem by signing Jadon Sancho. After winning their maiden EPL trophy Liverpool had a really woeful previous season but Jurgen Klopp should be able to solve all the major issues and revamp his side during the summer training camp.

As far as Chelsea are concerned, they won the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel and by the end of the 20/21 campaign, the Blues looked completely in sync and comfortable playing under their current manager.
