Rangers FC are on the verge of parting ways with Alfredo Morelos as Ligue 1 side Lille are heavily interested in signing him up.

The Gers have put a lofty price tag on the Colombian’s shoulder but it looks like the French side are ready to pay the transfer fee. Now with TransferMarkt claiming that there’s an 85% chance of a transfer, some experts are hinting that it’s only a matter of time before the deal is announced formally.

Pundit Chris Sutton has made it clear that Gerrard otherwise will have no pressing issues in letting him leave but it will really tough for the club to find a top goal scorer like him immediately.

“It’s a very difficult decision [in Rangers selling Morelos & the price they sell him for],” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live, as reported.

“Tom [English] is right, he has scored 59 goals in the last two seasons, that is unbelievable. That is an unbelievable return. But he’s a problem.

“We have seen over the last couple of seasons, he has his moments. I mention the word trust. You cannot trust him. He came back out of shape, he went back to Columbia, didn’t come back and missed a huge cup game.

“How can Steven Gerrard hang his hat on a player, I believe and I am told, he [Morelos] wants away. So, that’s another issue. Can he [Gerrard] trust him? Can he trust him, if he does stay, to knuckle down?

“But the issue for Rangers is, okay we’ll let him go, but who are you going to get in who is going to give you that goal return which Morelos did do?

“There is always that question in there that he hasn’t done it against Celtic. But in European competition, last year, he was phenomenal in some games. Not just his goals, his link-up play, the way he led the line, so it’s a very, very difficult one for Steve Gerrard that.”

Alfredo Morelos joined Rangers from Helsinki back in 2017 and since then he has been in fine goalscoring form for the Ibrox outfit.

During the 2019-20 season, the forward netted 29 goals along with 10 assists in just 46 matches for the club.

Gerrard would have loved to hold onto Morelos for one more season in order to dethrone Celtic but if Lille are actually ready to pay around £17million, then there’s no way that Rangers will be able to resist a sale.
