‘They Have Decisions At Home Like That, They Will Be Unstoppable’ – Wenger Takes A Dig At Man City’s Win

Arsene Wenger has lashed out at the officials for making poor decisions during his team’s loss at the hands of Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

According to Wenger, Man City received a lot of favours from the poor decisions during the match and those decisions eventually came back to haunt the Gunners. Wenger has accused Sterling of being a “diver” and he also felt that the third goal was offside – but was not given by the linesman.

By the looks of it, Raheem Sterling should have been booked for simulation but referee Micheal Oliver saw it otherwise and decided to award City with a penalty. Aguero converted from the spot which eventually helped City lead the match 2-0. But even after that, Arsenal dug deep and pulled one goal back. And as Wenger was preparing to throw the kitchen sink in the final quarter, City restored their two-goal advantage through a pass that seemed offside to everyone.

Speaking after the match Wenger said that it will be really hard to stop Manchester City this season if the referees keep adding soft decisions in their favour on top of their fine form.

Wenger said, “I believe it was no penalty. We know that Raheem Sterling dives well, he does that very well. And the third goal was offside. I am very upset because at 2-1 we were in the game.

“The third goal was the killer and it is by coincidence that mistakes always go for the home team, as we know.

“It is unfortunate that the game finished the way it finished. I am disappointed. You can accept if it City win in a normal way, they are a good side but this is unacceptable. Last season we lost two offside goals and it has happened again.”

“The fact you tell me it is an offside goal says enough. I don’t want to take anything away from the quality [of City] but it happened at a moment when we were really in the game at 2-1 and it killed the game. It is the second year. We got two offside goals here last year and one this year.” Wenger added

“Can anyone stop [City]? It will be difficult this season, the way they have started and the quality they have but you never know. If on top of that they have decisions at home like that, they will be unstoppable. We put a lot of effort in and at 2-1 I thought we could come back. The 3-1 was an immense relief for them, an unexpected present.”
