Here’s how Arsenal will be able to sign this defensive midfielder before the new season begins

Thomas Partey

Premier League side Arsenal will be able to sign midfielder Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid only if they sell some of their current players, according to Sky Sports.

The report claims: “Arsenal like Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey – but any moves that require significant outlays would require sales of current squad players.

“Matteo Guendouzi has fallen out of favour under Arteta and his age and profile could generate substantial money.

“Alexandre Lacazette is attracting interest from Juventus, and the French forward was often dropped in favour of Eddie Nketiah at the end of the campaign.

“Arsenal could also generate funds with the potential sales of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mohamed Elneny, Lucas Torreira, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Sead Kolasinac, but it will be very difficult to get such a huge turnaround of ins and outs in one summer transfer window.”

If this report is true then it clearly shows that Mikel Arteta has a very limited amount of funds to use this summer which is why he’ll have to rely mostly on selling players in order to bring in new signings.

There’s no denying that the Gunners squad have a lot of deadwood which needs clearing up but the new Premier League season kicks off on September 12 which means Arteta has a very limited amount of time to sort everything out.

The Arsenal boss will want to have a very clear idea about his first-team squad for the next season and he’s most certainly want to bring in Thomas Partey before the 2020-21 season kicks off.

But for his to achieve this, the manager will have to make some tough transfer calls, possibly letting players like Lucas Torreira and Alexandre Lacazette leave in a hurry.

While the Gunners fans would love to see Thomas play for then next season but his international coach has warned the 27-year-old against joining the North London side.

“Honestly, I wouldn’t want him to move to Arsenal because with Atletico, he will always play Champions League football,” he said, as reported.

“His position is guaranteed and he will always play.”
