Arsenal went down 1-0 in the Premier League this weekend to Aston Villa and in a fresh blow, midfielder Thomas Partey had to be taken off with an injury.

Thomas has missed a number of games this season due to a previous injury setback and just when he was finding his feet in the first-team, the summer signing seems to have picked up a muscle injury.

The former Atletico man was replaced by Willian in the 74th minute of the match and speaking in his post-match press conference, Mikel Arteta has admitted that the player has indeed picked up another injury setback.

“He had a muscular injury so we had to take him off,” said Mikel Arteta after the game, as per Arsenal.com. “He could not carry on playing. I don’t know [how bad it is].”

“We will see the extent of the injury. He wasn’t feeling well enough to continue playing so we had to take him off.”

Thomas Partey has already missed 10 games for Arsenal this season due to a hip injury which he picked up during the first week of December and now this fresh injury could be a major cause of concern for the Arsenal manager.

Arsenal’s midfield has become much more stable after the 27-year-old has come back into the side and while Arteta does have players who can play in that same role but we doubt if they can have the same sort of impact or not.

The injury to Thomas Partey means the likes of Elneny and Dani Ceballos will get the chance to come back into the starting line-up but with games against Man City and Leicester just round the corner, the Ghanaian could be a big miss for the Gunners – if his injury is serious.

Arsenal take on Leeds United in the Premier League next weekend and then they take on Benfica in the Round of 32 of the Europa League.
