Thomas Partey to Arsenal

Arsenal have had a long-standing interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey but with each passing day, it seems like the Gunners will not be able to sign him.

The latest update comes from Fabrizio Romano who happens to be one of the most trusted transfer experts in world football right now and according to him, Atletico might not be ready to part ways with the 27-year-old.

Fabrizio Romano said, as reported: “About Partey, [Arsenal] have to pay [the release] clause or nothing – Atletico Madrid have this mentality.

“So, if you want Atletico Madrid players, you have to pay the clause, and Partey’s [is] €50 million.

“So, at the moment, there are no negotiations because Atletico Madrid told Arsenal ‘if you want the player, you have to pay’.

“But I think after selling Morata to Juventus, Atletico Madrid won’t sell any other top player, so we have to see what will happen with Thomas.”

Will Arsenal miss out on Thomas Partey?

While Granit Xhaka has played the defensive midfielder’s role pretty well so far under Mikel Arteta but there’s no doubt the manager wants to bring in Thomas Partey at the earliest.

But the Premier League side are really struggling with finances at this point in time and we are not sure if they will be able to accumulate the required €50 million before the transfer window shuts down next month.

Also, Diego Simeone is not at all interested in parting ways with Thomas Partey and now that he has gotten enough funds from the sale of Alvaro Morata, the Atletico manager will resist the sale of another big-name player, just like Romano has pointed out.

Arsenal are also looking at Lyon’s Houssem Aouar and maybe it’s finally time for the Gunners to scrap the idea of signing Thomas Partey and shift their focus to the French U21 international.
