Pundit slams this Chelsea player for his poor show vs Atletico: Much deserved?

Timo Werner

Timo Werner had another poor outing for Chelsea, this time during a 1-0 win against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Werner has been getting constant starts for Chelsea ever since Thomas Tuchel has been named the new manager but on Tuesday, the German managed only 47 touches of the ball during his 87-minute stay on the pitch.

And while speaking about Timo Werner and his missed chance in the first half, pundit Rio Ferdinand chose not to mince his words.

Ferdinand said, as quoted by Daily Mail: “It’s not an easy chance, but you’d like to see him get it on target.

“He gets into these areas, makes the keeper make a save, fair enough, but there’s far too many times when he’s loose in possession when building up, or decision making when he gets into these areas at times.

“It’s frustrating watching him, because you’ve seen clips of what he can do. Sometimes fast players have to slow the game down a bit. They’re running so fast everything seems to be a blur.”

Timo Werner has so far scored only 10 goals in 34 games across all competitions for Chelsea and in midweek, the forward managed to string together only 23 passes during the match. And to everyone’s discontent, he’s taking way too long to adjust to life in the Premier League.

Timo Werner’s total passes vs Atletico Madrid

Chelsea are two points away from the fourth spot on the league table and they have some really important games coming up in the next few weeks

The Blues take on the likes of Man United, Liverpool, Everton and then Leeds United in their next games in the league and if Timo Werner cannot up his game soon enough then Tuchel might be staring at his first league defeat in England.

Thankfully, Kai Havertz has returned to full fitness this week so it will not be a total surprise to see Timo Werner being dropped to the bench for their next league game on Sunday.
