Man United have made their first signing of the summer transfer window in the form of Tom Heaton from Aston Villa, as per Football Insider.
Heaton is a Manchester United academy product and after moving through various loan spells, the keeper moved out of the club in 2010 on a free transfer. In the summer of 2019, he joined Aston Villa from Burnley but the 35-year-old has failed to make any sort of impact at Villa Park this campaign.
He is going to be a free agent this month and a few days ago, Fabrizio Romano had claimed that the shot-stopper is on his way back to Manchester United.
He wrote on Twitter: “Tom Heaton will undergo his medical and sign as new Manchester United player in the next weeks, the deal is ‘done and completed’.
“Contract until June 2023 + option for one more season. Here we go.”
With a ‘Here we go’ already in place, we were expected Man United to announce the Tom Heaton signing sometime this week but Football Insider are claiming that even though all parties have agreed on the transfer but the Old Trafford outfit will wait till the next month to make things official.
The report claims: “Man United have finalised the signing of Tom Heaton from Aston Villa but he will not be unveiled until 1st July, Football Insider has learned.
“A United source has told Football Insider that the deal was wrapped up last month but Heaton will not undergo his medical until later in June.”
Heaton has likely been offering a player-coach role during his second stint at the club so we are not expected him to make any first-team appearances during the next couple of seasons. During the 2020-21 season, the 35-year-old managed to make only four appearances in the Premier League 2.
