Zinedine Zidane was sweating over the fitness of Toni Kroos before Real Madrid’s Champions League game vs Chelsea but according to Carlos Forjanes of AS, the midfielder will be available for selection on Tuesday.

The report claims: “Zidane now has a clearer idea of how he will approach Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Chelsea.

“Toni Kroos is now over the muscular problems which kept him out of yesterday’s league meetings with Getafe, Cádiz and Betis and will return to the side to meet Chelsea. On Sunday, Kroos trained as normal in Madrid’s penultimate session ahead of the tie.

“Kroos was the player he was desperate to have back for the Chelsea game. He had to field Castilla midfielder Antonio Blanco in Cádiz and while the youth team player did well, it will be the triangular formation of Casemiro-Kroos-Modric which will be key in the midfield battle with Jorginho, Kovacic and Kanté.”

This is indeed a big positive for the Real Madrid manager since Toni Kroos along with Luka Modric were the two players who dismantled Liverpool in the previous round. And now that the German is back to full training, he’s a definite starter for the first leg.

Tuchel will have loved to seen Toni Kroos ruled out especially since he is without Mateo Kovacic himself but now the Chelsea boss will have to make sure that Jorginho and Kante do not let the German settle on the ball.

But all is not great news for the manager since the same report is claiming that left-back Ferland Mendy is not likely to recover from his muscular issues in time.

Mendy was also brilliant against Liverpool but thankfully Zidane has a proper backup in the form of Nacho so the manager will not be sweating too much over the absence of the full-back.
