Man United manager Erik ten Hag

Currently, Tottenham Hotspur are out in the market looking for a replacement for Jose Mourinho and according to The Daily Mail, Levy has his sights set on Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.

Nagelsmann and Brendan Rodgers were Levy’s primary targets as the new Spurs boss but the first one is on his way to Bayern Munich while Rodgers has reportedly rejected the offer to join the North London side. So now, the Lilywhites are said to be looking at Erik ten Hag.

The report claims: “Sportsmail understands Ten Hag is among the candidates Levy is now considering to replace Mourinho following the news about Nagelsmann and Rodgers.

“Levy wants to appoint a manager with a clear attacking direction amid concerns from within the club about Mourinho’s more pragmatic approach during his reign.

“The Ajax boss’ current deal expires at the end of next season, meaning he is likely to be relatively cheap to release from his existing contract, which will suit Tottenham who are working within a tight financial framework due to the impact of Covid.”

Erik ten Hag has worked wonders with Ajax over the past couple of years and he was responsible for the Dutch side’s fine run in the Champions League during the 18/19 season. A campaign where Ajax knocked out Juventus and Real Madrid.

Some report claim Roberto Martinez is also on Spurs’ radar but right now it’s Erik ten Hag who is the firm favourite to come into the club.

The Premier League side are yet to make any official approach but Daniel Levy wants to give his new manager ample time to sort things out which is why he is keen to appoint someone before the current season wraps up.

It’s unclear how things will pan out but some rumours claim that Brendan Rodgers did not want to join Spurs since he will not have control over player signings and various other proceedings at the club.

But a manager like Erik ten Hag will surely not pose such an issue for Daniel Levy and hence the 51-year-old could very well be sitting in the Spurs dugout in the coming few weeks.

UPDATE:

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur have scheduled a meeting with Erik ten Hag.

He wrote on Twitter: “Tottenham have scheduled a ‘direct meeting’ with Erik ten Hag. He’s among the candidates to become the new Spurs manager – ten Hag is open to leave Ajax in the summer. Nothing decided yet.”
