Tottenham Hotspur will begin a new era under their new manager Nuno Espirito Santo and their first game of the 21/22 Premier League season will be against defending champions Manchester City.

Spurs had a very good pre-season but that will count to very little when they face Manchester City at home. Nuno though has a pretty decent record against Guardiola’s side – doing the double against City with Wolves back in the 2019/20 season.

Tottenham Hotspur have made a few signings during the ongoing transfer window but there are whispers that none of them are going to be named in the first XI, for one reason or another.

We are not sure how Spurs are going to line up under their new manager but if Nuno’s tactics at Wolves are anything to go by then the Lilywhites will not be playing that ultra-defensive game which they did under Jose Mourinho.

Tottenham Hotspur team news vs Man City:

Pierluigi Gollini has joined Spurs this summer but Hugo Lloris should remain the No 1 this weekend against Man City.

Centre-back Cristian Romero remains a major doubt due to his knee injury and if he is not fit then Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier will pair up in defence with Reguilon and Tanganga playing as the two full-backs.

Hojbjerg will likely be partnered by Oliver Skipp in central midfield and there’s a big chance that the Tottenham Hotspur manager uses Dele Alli in the attacking midfielder’s role.

Nuno also has the option of Lo Celso but since Alli featured in the first XI against Chelsea and Arsenal in pre-season, we think the manager will stick with him this weekend as well.

With Gareth Bale gone, Lucas Moura will return to the right wing and if Harry Kane is not playing then Son should be leading the line.

Kane has been tipped to join Manchester City plus he reported late to pre-season training. These two factors could force the Spurs boss to keep him on the bench this weekend but Nuno has hinted that Harry Kane could be available for selection.

If he is fully fit and his head is in the right place then Harry Kane is a guaranteed starter for Tottenham Hotspur.
