This Liverpool player is not likely to be included in the England squad for the Euros: But why?

Trent Alexander-Arnold put on a superb display of skills vs Arsenal this past weekend but according to Gabby Agbonlahor, the Liverpool full-back is expected to miss out on the Euros this summer.

Last season, Trent Alexander-Arnold was on a roll for Liverpool and he was easily the best right-back that England had at that moment. But over the course of the past year, a lot of things have changed. While the youngster’s performances have somewhat declined and at the same time, players like Reece James and Kyle Walker have done extremely well.

And this form and versatility of someone like a Kyle Walker should force Gareth Southgate to keep Alexander-Arnold out of the Three Lions squad this summer.

“He hasn’t been at his best, but he is still a great footballer,” Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT.

“But it’s a really tough one with England because you look at Reece James; he is very good going forward, he’s decent defending.

“Trent Alexander-Arnold is very good going forward, but not as good defensive-wise. Kyle Walker is definitely going to be in the squad because he can play centre-half as well, Trippier is playing well at Atletico Madrid.

“So as much as Trent hasn’t been in his best form, maybe it’s just that Southgate fancies these other right-backs ahead of him and I think he doesn’t make the squad, for me. I don’t think he takes him.

“I would take him, but I don’t think he [Gareth Southgate] takes him because Kyle Walker can play right-back and as a centre-half in a three. If Trent Alexander-Arnold played in the three games England played in last time they met up, he would have had outstanding games.

“But would you want him playing right-back if you’re getting to the latter stages against a Portugal or a France when the better players come in?

“Or, do you want a Kyle Walker? A quicker right-back, or a Reece James who is better at defending? So it’s tough and I think everyone is going to be split on it.”

Last season, Trent Alexander-Arnold managed to score four and assist 13 goals in the Premier League for Liverpool but this campaign, the full-back has managed only four assists so far.

And while his display vs Arsenal was top notch but to be fair, he did not have the best of times in the preceding few matches. So the only way for him to convince Gareth Southgate will be to keep performing at the same level for the remainder of the season.

Also, players like Walker and Reece James have done very little wrong this campaign so it will be really harsh on the manager’s part to overlook their impacts and choose Trent Alexander-Arnold for the EUROs just cause the Liverpool lad can put in fine crosses.
