Rangers FC summer signing Umar Sadiq has had a rough couple of seasons but finally, it seems that his career is on the right track.

Umar Sadiq was brought in on loan from AS Roma and the youngster was supposed to be the backup to Alfredo Morelos in the striking department.

But three months into the new season and Umar Sadiq has made only three appearances for the Teddy Bears.

Initially, it was thought that Kyle Lafferty’s form was the reason why Sadiq was not getting regular game time.

But later reports revealed that Steven Gerrard was not happy with the work ethics of the youngster. Some reports also claimed that Umar Sadiq has done nothing but disappoint the manager and the Gers are planning to send him back to Itlay during the summer transfer window.

Now though, Steven Gerrard has opened up about the 21-year-old claiming that Umar Sadiq has shown great improvement.

Steven Gerrard said: “Umar has shown that improvement. He’s been working very hard. He’s got his head down. He’s improved a lot.

“His application has improved, his quality has improved so he’s given me something to think about for the future.

“I don’t know (if the warning has sparked the change), that’s something you’d have to ask Umar.

“But sometimes when a manager is honest with you, sometimes you have to go away and self-reflect. If you’re a proper footballer you go analyse and come back stronger.”

The situation was so bad that Steven Gerrard had to come out in public and criticize Umar Sadiq. Many felt this was the point of no return for the striker but that humiliation seems to have had a positive effect on him.
