Arsenal spent heavily on bringing in forwards and strikers during the past two transfer seasons and now Unai Emery’s biggest job will be to strengthen the defence between the new season starts.

According to various reports, Hector Bellerin is the only defender whose future at the Emirates seems to be secure with Emery marking him as one of the club’s future assets.

No other defender is spared from the wrath of the management and the Gunners are currently out in the market looking to bring in a couple of centre-backs.

Reports have it that the London outfit were looking at Brighton defender Lewis Dunk as one possible option but Unai Emery is not too fond of this move.

Unai Emery has told his management that he does not wish to move for the 26-year-old.

Dunk played 39 games in all competitions for Brighton last season and he was one of the inspirational figures that helped the Seagulls avoid relegation last season.

Instead of moving for Lewis Dunk, Arsenal are looking to sign Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund.

The 30-year-old defender is expected to cost in the region of 17.5 million pounds and the Gunners are said to be pretty close to signing Sokratis.

The signing of Sokratis instead of Lewis Dunk will surely be an upgrade – especially in terms of experience. But Unai Emery is also planning to bring in a midfielder before pre-season especially with Jack Wilshere vacating his locker room.
