Man United might not be buying a new centre-back this transfer window: Here’s why

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof had a really poor outing last week against Crystal Palace in the Premier League and since then, the fans as well as the pundits, have been urging the club to sign a new centre-back before the transfer window shuts down.

But while speaking on this same topic on Friday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has now hinted that his club might not be looking to bring in a new defender as he is quite content with Victor Lindelof.

The manager said, as per the club’s official website: “I think last season proved to us how we can defend at our best.

“Yeah, last week wasn’t fantastic – we conceded sloppy goals, but our defensive record from last season shows with [Victor Lindelof] and Harry [Maguire] how good a partnership they were.

“It’s the whole team, defending as a team. Eric [Bailly] is fit again, which is a big bonus for us and I’m looking forward to seeing him develop and play more games this season because we’ve been waiting for him to… well, first, be fit and then to play more regularly.

“As I’ve said so many times, I’m very confident in my players. If, and when, something happens, both ins and outs, we’ll update you.

“In football you can’t predict too much. But, for me, we’re just working on getting better. My focus is solely on the game and I can’t be thinking any other way. We need three points in this game.”

This news will surely not go down too well with the fans who have been demanding a defensive upgrade over the past week.

But we have a feeling that even Solskjaer is keen to bring in reinforcements at the back but he has understood that his management might not be able to sign someone before the window shuts down on October 5.

And this is the sole reason why he has chosen to back Victor Lindelof as the partner to Harry Maguire instead of ranting publicly about the club’s inability to sign new players.
