Newcastle have made contact with this Man United transfer target: Will the Magpies be a better option for the 24Y/O?

St James' Park Newcastle United

According to a report in Gazzetta dello Sport, Newcastle United have shown an interest in signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

The striker has been on fire this season and he will be one of the most in-demand transfer targets during the summer. Manchester United have already been linked with the 24-year-old and now Newcastle’s entry will make things even more interesting.

Napoli had paid €75 million to Lille back in 2020 and because Victor Osimhen has two more years left on his contract, the Serie A side will want to make a huge profit from his sale.

The Nigerian international has already expressed his admiration for the Premier League and with two English clubs interested in him, Osimhen could ask to leave in the coming months.

Will Newcastle United convince Victor Osimhen to join them?

Newcastle United will be playing in the Champions League next season so they can attract the big stars this summer. Eddie Howe has been very smart with his signings so far but because they have secured a top-four finish, the manager will be given a massive transfer kitty for the summer.

Apart from Victor Osimhen, Manchester United also have Harry Kane in their sights and the England international will be a much cheaper target than the Napoli frontman.

Kane prefers to join Manchester United over the other interested teams which is why we think Ten Hag won’t waste too much time on Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian is only 24 years old whereas Kane will soon be 30 but we doubt Man United will spend €130-150 million on a single player.

Newcastle United can easily spend such amounts but the hard part for them would be to convince Victor Osimhen to snub major European giants and join a team who will be playing in Europe after 20 years. IF Napoli agree to put him in the market then we are sure a string of big clubs will want to sign him and amidst that crowd, the Magpies will definitely not be the favourites.
