Rangers FC have managed to beat Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League Round of 32, and former Rangers star Richard Foster has come out to praise defender Calvin Bassey.

The Gers won the two-legged tie 6-4 and even though BVB managed a draw at Ibrox on Thursday, Bassey was one of the standout players for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.

Foster has come out to praise the 22-year-old claiming that he has managed to impress in not one but multiple positions across the backline.

The former Rangers star said on BBC Radio Scotland, as quoted: “Someone like Bassey deserves huge credit.

“He came to the club, young boy, spent a lot of time on the sidelines watching Barisic, who was excellent.

“But he has come in this season, he has been far better than Barisic at left-back and he has done well when he played at centre-back.

“There he came in and played in the left of a back five and showed the power and pace he got but also the quality and delivery.”

Was Calvin Bassey really that good against Dortmund?

The defender obviously provided a key assist in the second half through which Tavernier equalised the match at 2-2 but apart from that Calvin Bassey was also superb defensively.

As per Fotmob, Bassey had a rating of 7.1 out of 10 on Thursday as he won 75% of his tackles and made two interceptions along with six recoveries.

He also won nine out of the 12 ground duels he had contested and had it not been for him and Goldson, BVB might very easily have matched Rangers’ goal tally.

Calvin Bassey has played 21 SPFL games this season for the Ibrox outfit and his average rating is 7.25/10 which is phenomenal given that he is only 22 years old.
