PSG forward Angel Di Maria was sent off for lashing out at Fernandinho during their loss to Manchester City in the Champions League semi-final.

Fernandinho and Di Maria got into a tussle on the sidelines and the Argentinian kicked out at the Man City midfielder while collecting the ball for a throw-in.

Following this incident, the City man collapsed to the ground in agony and Di Maria was pretty swiftly shown a red card by the referee. But this decision only went on to infuriate the PSG forward even more, as per Le Parisien.

The report claims: “After Idrissa Gueye at the Parc des Princes, this time it was Angel Di Maria who took a red card (69th), guilty of a sole on the ankle of Mancunian midfielder Fernandinho after a first altercation on the sidelines of a touch for the players from the capital.

“The expulsion did not please the ex-Real Madrid player at all, who did not hesitate to express his anger to the match’s referee, Dutchman Bjorn Kuipers.

“Then Angel Di Maria attacked the Brazilian, insulting him several times. “Fernandinho, you are a son of p …”, we hear the player of PSG in isolated images by the broadcaster of the meeting, RMC Sport.”

The match was already slipping away by then but the sending off made things even more embarrassing for PSG. But according to Arsene Wenger, Fernandinho should have also been sent off for provoking Angel Di Maria.

Wenger said: “I have to say I don’t like how Fernandinho behaved tonight. It’s provocative.

“If you send Di Maria off, you have to send Fernandinho off as well, for me.

“He should already have had a yellow card and then he was provoking Di Maria. They both should have been off.”

Fernandinho will not be too concerned with this incident since Manchester City have managed to book a place in the final thanks to that 2-0 win in the second leg on Tuesday night.
