Liverpool defender Nat Phillips shone for the first-team last season and now West Ham United have become the latest club to show an interest in signing him, as per The Athletic.
Already, sides like Bayer Leverkusen, Southampton, Burnley and Newcastle United are in the hunt to sign the 24-year-old centre-back and now the Hammers have also joined the race.
Will Liverpool allow Nat Phillips to leave?
Nat Phillips was pushed into the limelight during the 2020-21 season due to all the injury woes at Liverpool and in the end, the 24-year-old came out with flying colours, helping his side manage a top-four finish.
He played in 20 games across all competitions last campaign, scoring one and assisting one goal.
But now that all the injured defenders have come back, it will be really hard for the Phillips to retain his place in the first XI, prompting him to seek an exit during the ongoing transfer window.
Liverpool have also signed Ibrahima Konate, so ideally Nat Phillips is below Van Dijk, Konte, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip in the pecking order right now.
The defender has only two more years left on his current deal and he is currently valued at £7.2 million so it will be sensible on Klopp’s part to cash in on him.
Which club is likely to sign the centre-back?
West Ham United are the latest club to show interest in the defender and while they are going to face a lot of competition, Moyes’ side might be the favourites to land him.
The likes of Burnley, Southampton and Newcastle United will all love to have someone like Nat Phillips in his side but the Hammers can offer him European football, something which the other clubs do not have.
Thanks to the fine performances last season, Nat Phillips will demand regular playing time from whichever club’s interested to bring him on board. And this condition could be really critical for the centre-back to choose his next destination – should Liverpool let him leave.
Bayer Leverkusen is also a viable option since he has already spent a loan season in Germany with VfB Stuttgart, playing in 19 league games in the second tier.
