West Ham Utd likely to make a move for this Man United defender: Everton want him too

West Ham United along with Everton are said to be interested in signing Manchester United centre-back Phil Jones during the ongoing transfer window.

Dean Jones writes for Euro Sport: “West Ham United are waiting to discover whether Phil Jones is open to a highly incentivised contract next season as he considers a new challenge.

“Manchester United are contemplating letting him leave on a free transfer to open up space in their squad and the Hammers are admirers, particularly as David Moyes is keen to work with him again.

“If Jones is made available as a free agent, it is understood West Ham would be willing to make an offer that would be low in terms of a base contract but with enticing add-ons when he makes appearances.”

Everton or West Ham United: Where is Phil Jones heading?

90Min are also claiming that Manchester United are ready to let Phil Jones leave on a free transfer this summer just to take him off the wage bills.

And apart from West Ham United, Everton are also in the hunt to sign the 29-year-old.

Jones still has two more years left on his current deal and is still earning £100,000-a-week at the club. But given the fact that he is not played in the Premier League since January 2020, no major club will be willing to pay a transfer fee for him.

The only option for United to send him out of the club is by sacrificing a transfer fee and maybe this is why clubs like West Ham United and Everton have shown an inclination to sign him this summer.

Rafa Benitez is eager to add competition amongst his centre-backs for the new season which is why he is ready to take a gamble with the Man United defender.

David Moyes, on the other hand, has closely worked with Phil Jones during his time at Manchester United so we think West Ham United will be a more suitable option for the defender.

Also, Jones is likely to favour a move to the London Stadium ahead of Everton since the Hammers are in a better position to offer him regular game-time next season.
