Premier League side West Ham United have agreed on a deal for Sassuolo’s Gianluca Scamacca and now they are interested to sign Blackburn forward Ben Brereton Diaz.

David Moyes was really desperate to sign a partner for Michail Antonio this summer and after landing Scamacca, everyone thought the Hammers would shift their focus to the other areas of concern.

However, it seems like the West Ham United manager is looking to add even more depth to his attacking departments by trying to sign Chilean forward Ben Brereton Diaz.

The London side had reportedly sent scouts to watch him in action during Blackburn’s against Lincoln City on Saturday.

Who is Ben Brereton Diaz?

The 23-year-old is a product of the Manchester United youth academy and he has been with Blackburn since 2018, first in a loan deal and then as a permanent player.

He’s primarily a centre-forward but can play as a left-winger and also a right-winger.

Diaz made 39 appearances for Blackburn last season and he managed to net 22 goals along with three assists. His current deal with the club expires in 2023 and is valued at around £15m.

Should West Ham United sign the centre-forward?

Scamacca’s signing was a major step in the right direction but if they want to get back into the Europa League or play in the Champions League then West Ham United need to sign someone like Ben Brereton Diaz as a backup.

He’s scored 22 goals in the Championship last season and a player like him will be a luxury to have off the bench.

It’s clear that David Moyes wants to properly reinforce his attacking department before the new season begins and a player like Diaz can come in very handy in those undesired and tricky Conference League matches.

If West Ham United are really interested in signing him then they will have to move quickly because Leeds United have also been linked with the 23-year-old.
