Premier League side West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing right-back Gonzalo Montiel from River Plate.
David Moyes is looking to add a new right-back to his squad during the summer transfer window and the Hammers boss seems to have set his sights on the 23-year-old.
Montiel has come up through the ranks at the Argentinian club and this season he has played in 19 Superliga games for River Plate, providing two assists.
But despite the strong interest from the London side, there are two major reasons why Moyes might not be able to get his hands on the full-back.
The first reason is that Gonzalo Montiel might have just one year left on his current deal but River Plate are not ready to slash their asking price for the Argentinian international.
Infobae reports: “Montiel, 23, has a contract with the cast of Núñez until June 2021 and has a termination clause of 20 million euros. In addition, it is one of the key pieces in the operation of the team led by the Doll.”
And if this price tag is not enough doubt then as per Football London, Serie A giants AS Roma are also keeping tabs on Gonzalo Montiel and might make a bid for him in the summer.
Football London claims: “Serie A giants AS Roma are reportedly keen on a move for West Ham ‘transfer target’ Gonzalo Montiel, from Argentinian club River Plate.
“The Hammers have been linked with Montiel as a right-back option for the 2020/21 season, with his agent claiming an offer has already been made for the 23-year old.”
Playing in England will obviously be a dream for the right-back but if West Ham United are relegated from the Premier League at the end of this season then there’s no way Montiel will be heading to the London Stadium in the summer.
