Rangers FC had been looking to bring in a new midfielder this summer and finally, they were able to bring in Joe Aribo from Charlton Athletic.

Charlton had tried really hard to hold onto the 23-year-old by making him agree to a new deal but eventually, the player could not resist an offer to play under Steven Gerrard at Rangers.

Even though his Charlton boss wanted him to stay in England so that he could get more exposure but clearly Joe Aribo was clear on which club he wanted to join.

And Gerrard too knew exactly the kind of player he was getting as he hinted what Joe Aribo would add to the Gers squad next season.

The Teddy Bears manager had said: “There were a lot of clubs in for Joe around Europe, in the Premier League and the Championship. There was a lot of interest in him, but for me, it’s just another top player joining Rangers.

“He’s mobile, dynamic, can burst past a player and create and score goals. There is room for him to develop, but he’ll give us something we’ve not got in the midfield department. He’s left-footed, which is something we don’t have in our midfield at the moment, so he’ll give us more balance. We have a good midfield, but currently, we don’t have a player with Joe’s characteristics.

“He is tall, athletic and quick. He’s a box-to-box player and is not afraid to open the door when he gets around the box and he can unlock defences.

“We’re confident we can turn Joe into an even better player and I’m really looking forward to working with him.

“He’s still young and we firmly believe there is a lot to come from him, but we need to be patient in order to allow him to continue his development and to improve as a player with the club.”

And now Chris Solly – the former teammate of Joe Aribo has revealed that the central midfielder will surely add to the goals tally for Ranges next season which, if true, will be a huge boost for the Ibrox outfit.

The Charlton captain said: “Joe can go as far as he wants. He is one of the best players I have ever seen at Charlton.

“He is such a good athlete. He is brilliant on the ball and he added goals to his game last season.

“I am sure he will kick on again under (Steven)Gerrard.”
